Dr Hemmel Amrania
Chief Executive Officer
Hemmel holds a degree in maths and physics from Imperial College London, a Masters in Optics and Photonics from Université Paris XI, and a PhD on the biomedical applications of ultrafast laser spectroscopy from Imperial College London. During his PhD, Hemmel patented a novel method to grade tumour biopsies without subjective bias. This work was awarded the President’s Award for Outstanding Research at Imperial College and later the Royal Society Innovation Prize and the Cancer Research Pioneer Award. While working on clinical trials at Charing Cross Hospital Hemmel saw first-hand the significant economic and patient care challenges breast oncologists faced in determining cancer recurrence risk. He, therefore, founded Digistain and developed its technology to create a radically faster and more cost-effective approach.
Prof Carlo Palmieri
Medical Advisory Board
Carlo is Consultant in Medical Oncology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He is a graduate in anatomy and medicine from the University of London and has a PhD from Imperial College London. Carlo is the recipient of the prestigious Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist and was previously a senior lecturer with the Department of Cancer at Imperial College. He is actively involved in developing and initiating translational research trials in breast cancer, is a senior medical advisor to the UK Breast Cancer Charity ‘Roko Cancer Campaign’, and has worked closely with the London Maggie’s Centre acting as a medical facilitator. He has co-edited the book ‘ABC of Cancer Care’ and sits on the National Cancer Research Institute Breast Clinical Study Group.

Mr. Balmforth has over 10 years in the medical device industry in European sales and managerial positions.
Sabrina Ali
Chief Operating Officer
Sabrina graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BSc Hons degree in Chemistry. She has 20+ years of experience as a Pharmaceutical professional, having worked for blue-chip companies such as GSK and Novartis. For the last 15 years, she has purely worked in the field of Oncology.
James Chandler
Chief Marketing Officer
James is a marketing and communications expert with deep experience in the science, healthcare and technology sectors across national and international markets. He has served at an executive management level with a number of respected global communications consultancies, and also held senior management positions at BenevolentAI, Sensyne Health plc and e-therapeutics plc. James provides strategic counsel on corporate affairs, marketing, public relations, sales enablement, business development, corporate & social responsibility, fund raising and investor relations.
Dr Darius Francescatti
Medical Advisory Board
Darius holds a medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and has been a practicing breast oncology surgeon for over 20 years. His professional interest has been in advancing technologies to improve surgical outcomes including the early adoption of ultrasound, ductal Lavage and ductoscropy, cryo-irradiation and interoperative radiotherapy, and the use of genomics to subtype breast cancer patients. Darius is the author of the book ‘Breast Cancer – A New Era of Management’. In addition to clinical practice, he has worked with Mammaprint as an advisor on their US clinical trials.
Prof Chris Philips
Scientific Advisory Board
Chris is the former Dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences and Head of the Optoelectronics section at Imperial College London. He was a visiting researcher at the Quantum Institute, University of California, Santa Barbara and has been elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. Chris was involved together with Hemmel Amrania in developing Digistain’s imaging technology enabling a new approach in human tissue imaging that reveals the chemical changes that accompany the onset of cancer.
Manveer Sroya
Director, Lab Operations
Manveer is a State Registered Biomedical Scientist with 18 years’ experience in clinical academic research and pathology operations and has helped to build Digistain’s laboratory management systems and processes. Previously she led pathology operations for the 100,000 genomes project for the West London Genomics Medicine Centre at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She has also worked as Head of Laboratory Management at Charing Cross Hospital and as Director of Compliance and Governance at AstraZeneca.
Sir Nicholas Wright
Medical Advisory Board
Nick is a renowned and respected professor of histopathology, a medical doctor and tumour pathology expert. He is a graduate of Durham Medical School and has two post-graduate degrees in pathology from Newcastle University. He has over 40 years’ experience in tumour pathology at consultant level and is the author of over 300 articles and 9 books including works on tumour development, growth and progression. His main research interest is clonal evolution in human tumours. In 2006 Nick was knighted for services to medicine.
